Pricing & contracts
How much does confidential shredding cost?+
Scheduled plans start from £19/month for sole traders on a 12-month term. Small office plans from £33/month. One-off collections from £45. All prices are fixed and published at our pricing page — no hidden fees, no quotes that take days to arrive.
Are there different prices for different term lengths?+
Yes. Scheduled plans are available on 3-month, 6-month and 12-month terms. Longer terms have lower monthly rates. For example, the Starter plan (30L bin, monthly collection) is £42/month on a 3-month term, £38/month on a 6-month term and £33/month on a 12-month term.
Is there a contract?+
Scheduled plans are available on 3, 6 or 12-month terms. One-off collections require no contract or ongoing commitment whatsoever — you book, we collect, that is it. You can also add a one-off clearout at any time alongside an existing scheduled plan.
Are there any hidden fees?+
No. The price published on our website is the price you pay. There are no admin fees, no fuel surcharges, no certificate fees, no renewal fees. The only addition is if you add an optional service — such as bin hire (£100 refundable deposit) or a specialist destruction service.
Do you offer discounts for multiple sites or large volumes?+
Yes. We offer group pricing for businesses operating multiple sites across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire — care home groups, academy trusts, professional services firms with multiple offices. Contact us on 01202 022409 to discuss your requirements and we will provide a tailored fixed quote.
How it works
How do I get started?+
Call us on 01202 022409, email office@clearcutconfidentialwaste.co.uk or use our online quote form. Tell us your location, the service you need and your approximate volume. We confirm your price the same day — usually within 2 hours.
Do I need to prepare documents before collection?+
No. Documents go into the sack as they are. No need to remove staples, paper clips, binders, elastic bands or folders. Everything goes in together — we handle all of that at the destruction facility.
Do I need to sort documents by type?+
No. All document types go in together — financial records, HR documents, client correspondence, medical records, legal files. No sorting required.
What happens to the documents after collection?+
Documents are transported securely to our certified destruction facility and shredded. The shredded material is then recycled. A certificate of destruction is issued confirming secure disposal.
Can I add an extra one-off collection to my scheduled plan?+
Yes. Additional ad-hoc collections can be arranged outside your regular schedule at £25/visit. Priority or next-day collections are available at £45/visit.
Certificate of destruction
What is a certificate of destruction?+
A certificate of destruction is the document we issue after every collection confirming that your documents have been permanently and securely destroyed. It records the date, your address and the destruction method. It is your documented proof of GDPR-compliant disposal.
Is the certificate of destruction included in the price?+
Yes. A certificate of destruction is included in the cost of every collection — scheduled or one-off — at no extra charge. It is issued automatically after every visit.
Do I need to request the certificate?+
No. The certificate is issued automatically after every collection. You do not need to request it, chase it or follow up. It arrives as a matter of course.
Can I get a duplicate certificate of destruction?+
Yes. Duplicate certificates of destruction are available free of charge. Contact us on 01202 022409 or email office@clearcutconfidentialwaste.co.uk to request a duplicate for any past collection.
Is the certificate of destruction suitable for regulatory compliance records?+
Yes. Our certificate of destruction is suitable for CQC inspection records, SRA compliance records, FCA data governance records, HMRC audit evidence, ICO accountability documentation and any other regulatory compliance purpose requiring evidence of secure document disposal.
GDPR & compliance
Why do I need to shred documents — can I not just recycle them?+
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, personal data must be disposed of securely in a way that prevents recovery. Placing documents containing personal data in a recycling bin does not meet this requirement. Recycling bags can be accessed before collection, and paper recycling processes do not guarantee destruction of readable content. Certified shredding is the standard method of compliant disposal.
Does GDPR apply to small businesses and sole traders?+
Yes. UK GDPR applies to every organisation that processes personal data, regardless of size. Sole traders, partnerships and micro-businesses have the same obligation to dispose of personal data securely as large organisations.
Can the ICO fine a small business for insecure document disposal?+
Yes. The ICO has investigated and taken action against businesses of all sizes for data protection failures, including insecure document disposal. A regular certified shredding service with a certificate of destruction is a straightforward way to demonstrate GDPR compliance.
How long should I keep documents before shredding them?+
Retention periods depend on the document type and your sector. General business records are typically retained for 6 years under HMRC requirements. Employee records vary by type. Patient records have NHS-specific retention periods. Visit our sector pages or call us on 01202 022409 for guidance on your specific situation.
Bins & sacks
Are sacks provided free?+
Yes. Tamper-evident collection sacks are provided free on all scheduled plans and all one-off collections. There is no charge for sacks.
What is a tamper-evident sack?+
A tamper-evident sack is a sealed security bag that cannot be opened without visible evidence of tampering. Once filled and sealed, your documents are secure from the moment of sealing through to certified destruction at our facility. The contents are also opaque — not visible from outside.
How much does bin hire cost?+
Both the 30L console bin and the 130L wheeled bin are available on a £100 fully refundable deposit with free delivery. There is no monthly charge for the bin itself — you pay only for your collection plan. The deposit is fully refunded when you return the bin at the end of your contract.
What is the difference between the 30L and 130L bins?+
The 30L console bin is a compact lockable unit that sits beside a desk or in a print area. Ideal for small offices. The 130L wheeled bin is larger — suited to higher-volume offices, practices and HR departments. Both are available on the same £100 refundable deposit.
Can I use my own existing bin?+
Yes. We can collect from your existing secure confidential waste bin at no extra charge. Contact us to confirm your bin type is compatible with our collection process.

Do you collect from residential addresses?+

Yes. Printed materials — including dispensing labels, medication packaging with patient information and other printed materials bearing personal data — from £3/kg (minimum 5kg). Certificate of destruction issued.
On-site shredding
What is on-site shredding?+
On-site shredding means our mobile shredding unit comes to your premises and destroys documents while you watch. The documents never leave your site unshredded — they are fed directly into the mobile unit and destroyed immediately. A certificate of destruction is issued the same day.
Who uses on-site shredding?+
On-site shredding is most commonly used by legal firms requiring witnessed file closure destruction, healthcare organisations requiring witnessed disposal of patient records, and businesses with specific chain of custody requirements. It is also popular for large one-off clearouts where a witnessed record of destruction is required.
How much does on-site shredding cost?+
On-site shredding starts from £125 for up to 1 hour / 10 sacks. Additional time is charged at £75/hour. For large volumes, contact us for a fixed quote. Certificate of destruction issued same day.
Is on-site shredding available across all three counties?+
Yes. On-site shredding is available across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Call us on 01202 022409 to discuss your requirements and agree a date.
